Covance was recently fined for 16 violations of the Federal Animal Welfare Act. The company is the subject of controversy following documented primate abuse in its laboratories in the United States and Germany.

A recent 11-month investigation inside a Covance laboratory documented appalling physical and psychological abuse of monkeys. Video footage shot inside Covance was described by a UK judge as being “highly disturbing”. The judge also commented on the rough manner in which the animals were handled and the bleakness of the surroundings in which they are kept.

On each occasion an employee documented conditions inside Covance facilities, the audio and video exposed terror, sadness, sickness, injuries, suffering, and deaths of animals.
